A locked Mystery Box usually needs its waiting period to finish and another Pokémon transferred to HOME or a compatible Let’s Go game. Diagnose the blocker before sending anything valuable.

💡
Quick diagnosis: Timer running? Wait. No new transfer? Prepare one carefully. Transfer blocked? Check HOME pickup, energy, eligibility and account matching. Keep the box problem and the transfer problem separate.

1. Check the box and event rules

Open the Poké Ball menu, then Items > Mystery Box. Niantic’s standard rule requires a three-day wait and another transfer after activation. Follow the displayed state rather than assuming a midnight reset or an exact countdown starting point.

A finished timer alone is not enough. Event announcements may change the wait or shiny availability. Read the current event’s local end time; opening just before it ends does not establish that bonuses continue afterwards.

2. If you have not made the next transfer

The HOME route needs no paid Premium Plan or Nintendo Switch Online membership. Set up mobile HOME, link its Nintendo Account and finish its tutorial. A compatible Let’s Go game is another route; this walkthrough uses HOME.

  1. In GO, open Settings > Connected Devices and Services > Pokémon HOME. Link the Nintendo Account used by your intended HOME account.
  2. Tap Send Pokémon. Check the energy cost, choose an eligible Pokémon, review the selection and confirm Transport only when certain.
  3. In HOME, accept the receiving prompt, view the transferred Pokémon and choose Receive Pokémon. Return to GO’s Items to check the box.
💡
Permanent move: HOME transfers cannot return to GO. This is different from transferring to Professor Willow. Keep anything you still need for battles, trading or your GO collection; stop before Transport if unsure.

3. GO will not let you send another Pokémon

An unreceived HOME batch prevents another GO-to-HOME transfer. Receive it first. If you dismissed the prompt, restart HOME or use Options > Pokémon GO Link > Receive. If HOME Boxes are full, carefully make room and retry; do not release something you want to keep.

No receiving prompt? Pokémon Support identifies two possible causes: an aborted transfer or a different destination account. Check whether the Pokémon remains in GO. Compare the HOME Support ID shown in GO’s settings with the ID on HOME’s launch screen before retrying.

Missing or pending transfer

Pokémon Support explains how to check whether a transfer was aborted or sent to a different account.

4. Energy, selection and connection checks

Transporter energy recharges over time. Waiting avoids buying an immediate recharge with PokéCoins. The Send Pokémon screen shows the required energy; the Mystery Box countdown does not measure it.

Some Pokémon cannot be selected, including buddies, favourites, Gym defenders, Shadow, costumed, Mega-Evolved and Gigantamax Pokémon. Special-ball restrictions also exist. Lucky and Purified statuses do not carry over, and some forms change. Read the confirmation and the current restrictions below.

5. Still locked after the checks?

  1. Write down the box message, time, event name and transfer outcome. Keep account details out of public screenshots.
  2. If the selected Pokémon remains in GO or the Support IDs differ, resolve that mismatch before trying again.
  3. If both box requirements are met but activation still fails, contact GO’s in-app support with the observations. For HOME receiving problems, use Pokémon Support’s receiving help.

Frequently asked questions

Does receiving in HOME reopen the box by itself? Receiving clears the pending batch. It is not listed as a separate box-activation requirement, and it does not replace the waiting period.

Can I send the same Pokémon again? It cannot return from HOME to GO, so choose carefully each time.

Should I buy energy to fix the timer? Energy and the box wait are separate. Do not pay for a recharge expecting it to remove the wait.
