In a local Max Battle, losing all three Pokémon does not let you select replacements and rejoin the same fight. Against a three-star boss or higher, use Cheer to help surviving teammates fill their Max Meter faster.
Is the fight still running, or did everyone lose?

A failed attempt is different from rejoining mid-fight
Max Particles are deducted on victory, not on a failed attempt. You can retry the local battle before the Power Spot closes without spending additional Max Particles on those failures.
Example: your team faints while a teammate is still fighting a three-star boss. Keep helping through Cheer. If the group then loses, discuss what failed before starting a fresh attempt; that is not the same as bringing replacements into the ongoing battle.
