A matching Lab Assistant and Builder’s Apprentice cooldown is expected: Helpers share a 23-hour workday. Assigning any Helper starts that schedule. Each Helper still gets one task during the workday, so a shared countdown does not mean an unused Assistant has already done his job.
Check the assignment, not just the countdown
- Open the Helper Hut and select the Lab Assistant. Check whether he has already been assigned during this workday.
- If he is unused, check the Laboratory for research you want him to help with. The Apprentice starting work does not by itself use up the Assistant’s task.
- If he has already worked, wait for the shared workday to reset. A short remaining research timer does not create another Helper assignment.
- Check whether “Keep assigned until upgrade is complete” is enabled if you want the Helper to remain on that project.
A shared schedule in practice
Suppose your ready Helpers start a new workday when you assign the Apprentice at 10:00. The next workday begins at 09:00 the following day. An unused Lab Assistant assigned at 15:00 follows that same reset; his assignment does not start a separate 23-hour countdown.
The Apprentice and Assistant each work for one hour per assignment. Their level changes how much upgrade time they remove, not the length of that work session.
When the behavior needs a closer look
If the Assistant refuses a valid assignment despite appearing unused, record the time you first assigned a Helper, the research selected and the message shown. Capture the Helper Hut screen and note any automatic assignment you observed. Those details distinguish an assignment problem from an ordinary shared reset.
If the refusal repeats, send those details to support.
