Keep the materials reserved for your next upgrade. Start by using or selling replaceable products. The steps below prioritize clearing space without spending Diamonds.

💡
The short route: Upgrade ready? Expand. Missing materials? Protect your reserve. Collection blocked? Free Barn space. Harvesting blocked? Check the Silo.

1. Confirm which storage is full

Check which storage is full. The Barn holds products, animal goods and supplies; crops, berries and fruit use the Silo. Selling wheat will not clear the Barn.

Barn expansion needs Bolts, Duct Tape and Planks. Protect the materials reserved for your planned upgrades.

2. Check the upgrade before selling anything

  1. Check the three material requirements in the Barn upgrade panel. Use your displayed numbers.
  2. If the complete set is ready and the upgrade fits your plan, expand now.
  3. Otherwise, protect your reserve and clear ordinary goods. Avoid the Diamond purchase option.

3. Choose goods you can spare

Start with products you already have more of than you expect to use before your next session. Check your current orders and any active task before choosing a stack. Keep a working supply of ingredients for the production chains you use most; selling all your dairy or sugar can turn a storage problem into a production shortage.

  1. Review the Truck Order Board. A checkmarked order has all its required goods available. Open it, inspect the quantities and rewards, and send the Truck only if those goods fit your plan.
  2. Alternatively, list surplus products in the Roadside Shop. Check the item, quantity and price. Only offer goods you can lose.
  3. If a neighbor has requested something you can spare, donating through the Neighborhood Trading Post is another option. You can donate only requested items; do not give away your protected upgrade stock.
  4. Reopen the Barn after each small batch. Stop clearing when you have enough space for what you want to collect next, plus a little room for the next task.

An order is not automatically a good deal because it is ready. Compare the space it would release with how difficult those goods will be to replace.

4. Work out a material surplus without touching your reserve

This is an inventory-planning example, not a fixed upgrade cost. Suppose your next Barn upgrade shows 20 Bolts, 20 Duct Tape and 20 Planks. You own 28 Bolts, 13 Duct Tape and 24 Planks. Protect 20 Bolts, all 13 Duct Tape and 20 Planks. You are short of 7 Duct Tape; the other two piles do not make up that shortage.

For that one upgrade, the amounts above the target are 8 Bolts and 4 Planks, or 12 items altogether. That calculation does not mean you should sell them. They may belong to your next upgrade or another planned use. If your rule is to keep all upgrade materials, leave all three stacks alone and clear products instead.

A practical reserve rule is: choose the upgrades you are saving for, add their material requirements, and treat only stock above that total as optional. Never subtract missing Duct Tape from extra Bolts to invent a complete set. They are different requirements.

💡
If ordinary goods are already at your minimum: You may have to pause collection while you obtain the missing materials or reconsider how many future upgrades you are saving for. There is no guaranteed instant way to keep every item and collect more into an unchanged full Barn. Do not panic-sell a protected set.

5. Collect carefully so the Barn does not fill again

Free Barn space before collecting finished products. Too many uncollected products can also trigger a full-queue warning despite empty queue slots. Clear the finished goods before queuing more; machines are not unlimited storage.

Use a small collection plan: if you want to pick up eight finished items, aim for at least eight free spaces before starting, with a buffer for anything else you intend to collect. This is a planning example, not a game-required buffer. Collect the immediate order items first rather than sweeping every machine.

Before queuing another product, check its ingredients against the storage categories above. Make items you expect to use rather than creating another pile solely to hide the warning.

6. Avoid spending Diamonds on the wrong fix

Keep the Diamond purchase buttons out of this cleanup. Supercell provides a confirmation setting at Settings > Adv. Settings > Enable diamond confirmation. Turn it on as an extra safeguard and still read each purchase screen.

Hiring Tom will not fetch your missing storage-expansion materials: Supercell excludes Land and Storage Expansion Materials from the items he can find. Rose and Ernest have their own storage for goods they collect, but that does not move your existing Barn inventory out. Do not hire a helper expecting an instant cleanup of the stock you already own.

If an upgrade appears not to work

If capacity and material counts are both unchanged after an upgrade attempt, Supercell advises retrying with a stable connection. If materials disappeared without a capacity increase, save screenshots of the counts and contact in-game support instead of buying replacements to test it.

Frequently asked questions

Must I sell Bolts, Duct Tape or Planks? No. Start with ordinary surplus products, useful orders or requested donations. If you are keeping every material and have nothing else to spare, you may need to wait before collecting more.

Can I keep every material? Yes, but you may need to pause collecting while you wait for a useful order, a sale or the missing upgrade materials.

How much spare space should I keep? There is no single target for every farm. Count your next planned collection and keep a buffer that fits your session. Repeatedly filling the last slot is a sign to reduce the next production batch or make the next storage upgrade a priority.
