Overview and role
Rufus is a Mystery Tank whose team barrier absorbs magic and pure damage. His own survival rule also distinguishes the type of the lethal hit, but it is resurrection rather than universal damage immunity. Physical attacks remain a direct concern, and the revival effect requires an original teammate to remain standing. Those qualifications are essential when deciding whether he fits the enemy lineup.
Reading the battle cycle
Rakashi's Barrier creates a protection window and Devourer of Magic converts part of the damage it absorbs into recovery. Rakashi's Mockery separately attacks the enemy with highest Magic Attack and adds silence. Watch whether the shield absorbs the meaningful enemy burst and whether Rufus's team survives with him. A lone Rufus should not be evaluated as though he retains the same revival condition as a full team.
Partners and interactions
Other Mystery heroes increase the barrier's capacity, giving a direct faction reason to consider them. The publisher discusses Amira, Folio and Rufus together as one magic-oriented defensive combination. A healer or damage dealer from another faction may still solve a problem that more barrier capacity cannot. In particular, use the other team slots to ensure that surviving the enemy's magic also leads to an actual win.
Limits and opposing pressure
Physical lethal damage bypasses the specific magic-or-pure revival condition. Resurrection prevention is another separate issue: the publisher's combat FAQ names effects such as Morrigan's Necromancy as blocking revival attempts. Losing the original teammates also removes the condition for Rakashi's Oath. Rufus is therefore not an unconditional counter to every mage team, especially when mixed damage, execution or resurrection-blocking mechanics are present.
Development decisions
Magic Attack improves the barrier and Mockery formulas; Health supports durability and the listed revival amount. Armor addresses physical damage that the barrier does not claim to absorb. Decide which failure occurs first: losing Rufus to physical pressure, losing allies despite the barrier, or surviving without sufficient damage to finish. A build that solves one of these problems may leave the others unchanged.
Artifacts
Rakashi's Shield grants team Armor, covering a different damage concern from the barrier. Tome of Arcane Knowledge supplies Magic Attack and Health, while Ring of Strength develops his main stat. This mix explains why offensive-looking Magic Attack can be defensive investment for Rufus. The weapon does not make his active barrier absorb physical damage; its Armor buff operates through a separate system.
Glyphs and skins
The catalogue lists Health, Strength, Armor, Magic Attack and Magic Defense glyphs. Examples include Angel and Winter for Health, Barbarian for Magic Attack, Beach for Armor and Spring+ for Toughness, plus the Strength default skin. Compare incoming physical pressure with barrier capacity before selecting an upgrade. Skin+ availability and its cost must be checked in the account rather than inferred from an older event or catalogue.
Talismans
Oath starts with Strength and the secondary catalogue pairs it with Health rolls. Languor starts with Armor and is paired with Magic Attack rolls. This is a useful choice between raw durability and a combination of physical defense plus stronger barrier scaling. Neither is automatically correct against every damage mix. Talismans require hero level 120, and the rolled values are part of the comparison.
Class and additional progression
Tank class progression can periodically improve the defenses of a low-Health ally. That support is distinct from Rakashi's Barrier and does not erase the lethal-hit conditions of Rakashi's Oath. No Rufus-specific Relic modification was certified here. Keep any new progression effect separate and check the current client before assuming it removes the original-teammate requirement or extends the barrier to physical damage.
