Whiteout Survival: Fire Crystals, Refined Crystals and Shards

Tell Fire Crystals, Refined Fire Crystals and Shards apart. Choose the right conversion, protect your next upgrade and budget for building and War Academy progression without relying on a fixed spending recipe.

Before you convert anything, open the upgrade you actually want and read the full material names. Fire Crystals, Refined Fire Crystals and Fire Crystal Shards are separate resources. Having plenty of one will not clear a shortage of another.

Know which crystal your upgrade wants

Material Where it matters Before spending
Fire Crystal Fire Crystal building upgrades; also an input for Super Refinement and shard exchange. Keep enough for the building steps you have chosen.
Refined Fire Crystal Higher Fire Crystal building upgrades; check later research requirements too. Check both building and War Academy plans.
Fire Crystal Shard War Academy research. Check the specific research node and its prerequisites.

Fire Crystals support building progression beyond level 30. Refined crystals appear in higher Fire Crystal upgrade requirements.

If you are planning later T12 or Flame Tech progression, read every material listed on that node, including any refined crystals and Steel it requires. Budget from those requirements rather than treating “refined for buildings, shards for research” as a permanent rule.

Three conversions that do different jobs

  • Normal refinement in the Crystal Laboratory spends Meat, Wood, Coal and Iron to produce Fire Crystals. It does not produce Refined Fire Crystals.
  • Super Refinement spends Fire Crystals to produce Refined Fire Crystals.
  • War Academy exchange produces Fire Crystal Shards using the available Steel or Fire Crystal exchange option. These shards go toward research; they do not fill a refined-crystal requirement.

The Laboratory and its options depend on state progression. Use the allowance and unlock conditions shown in your own game. A daily count or screen from an older state may not match yours.

Only use Steel you can spare after allowing for your next planned work.

Protect one useful milestone

Choose a reachable goal: the next building stage you need, a required prerequisite, or a specific War Academy node. Read the whole path to that goal.

  • Record the exact building stage or research node, including prerequisites still unfinished.
  • List Fire Crystals, Refined Fire Crystals, Shards and other required materials separately.
  • Subtract what you already own to find each shortage.
  • Reserve the materials needed for that goal before deciding how much to convert elsewhere.

For example, suppose you have 1,000 Fire Crystals and deliberately reserve 700 for a building plan. That leaves at most 300 available for other uses. These are hypothetical budget figures, not upgrade costs.

If your useful next research step needs shards, compare the exchanges available to you with that reserve in place. If the building is your priority, protect its ordinary and refined crystal requirements together.

Plan around random results, not lucky screenshots

Refinement can produce different quantities. Super Refinement also uses cost tiers, so do not multiply the first displayed price by a large number of future attempts. Review the next cost as you progress and check any daily discount before confirming.

Keep two limits: the amount you are willing to spend and the amount you still need. Stop when either limit is reached. A weekly allowance is a ceiling, not a target you must fill.

A quoted average from a guide is not a guaranteed yield for your next batch.

Check available rewards before converting more

Look through rewards and shops already open to your state before paying for the entire shortage through conversion. For example, Century Games’ July 2026 update added Refined Fire Crystals to the State of Power Shop for states that have unlocked Generation 10 heroes or later.

Check the current price, stock and what else you wanted from the same currency. Count rewards you already hold; treat a future reward as a separate possibility until you have earned it.

If you are timing an upgrade for an event, read its current task description. Check whether it credits the particular conversion or the later building or research spend.
